  1. Chancellor announces freeze to 2021/22 Business Rates Multiplier

    Following the chancellor’s 2020 Spending Review speech in the House of Commons the treasury has confirmed that the UBR in England will not be subject to its annual increase in line with inflation.

    This means that small property multiplier will be £0.499 and, assuming no adjustments to the SBR supplement are made, the large property UBR will be £0.512.

  2. Changes to rating in Scotland

    The Scottish Minister for Public Finance and Migration has written to all rate payers in Scotland regarding changes to the non-domestic rating system following the Barclay Review. The letter can be read here.

    From the 1st April 2021 new rules will require rate payers to

    • respond to requests for information from Assessors within 28 days or face a civil penalty which can rise to up to 70% of the rateable value of the property
