   In February we replied to the Government’s consultation on Checking and Challenging you Rateable Value.

   Today the Government has written an open letter to the respondents.

   It is nice to see the proposed changes have been put on hold pending a review of the whole of rating.

   Hopefully the new review will be better than the last one which produced nothing useful and is responsible for the current mess that is empty property rates.… Read more

2. Retail Relief

   In his November 2013 Autumn Statement the Chancellor said

   “I can announce today that for the next two years every retail premise in England with a rateable value of up to £50,000 will get a discount on their business rates.

   This discount will be worth £1000 off their bills.”

   It would be wrong to say didn’t tell the truth but lazy civil servants have made a liar of him.
