The Machinery Users' Association was established in 1887 by industrialists lobbying for the exemption of Plant and Machinery from Rating.

It was widely recognised as representing industry and commerce on all aspects of rating law and practice and has significant interests in other property legislation.

Today the Association has the good offices of a Parliamentary Advisor, Sir Patrick Cormack FSA MP, and has access through his services to Government Ministers and their department advisors.

Sir Patrick arranges and hosts luncheons for members and clients of the Association, giving access to speakers invited to talk on property and related matters.

Sir Patrick also hosts the annual Summer Reception for clients of MUA Property Services. Venues in recent years have included the Terrace of the Palace of Westminster, the private gardens of Westminster Abbey and Lambeth Palace.
